VISIT OF UK DELEGATES

On  25th October 2010, Deepalaya School was honoured by the five days visit of Mr.Mark Chesterton and his team from Larkrise School U.K. The objective of the visit was to exchange the ideas to discuss different approaches to learning and teaching methods.

 

 

 

The visitors were traditionally welcomed at the school with Tilaks. The delegation interacted with the teachers and the founder member Mr.Mathew and Mr.Y.Chakochan.  Ms.Charlotte Stewart exchanged the ideas related to the Mathematics in std III with Ms.Sanju Mehta and the role of play in learning in U.K.G was discussed with Ms.Bindu Chugh and Ms.Amanda Carr. Ms.Pat Camelleri discussed the importance of Physical Education in promoting health & implementation of physical activities within daily and weekly schedule with Mr. Sanjeev Kumar. Mr.Mark Chesterton met senior leaders to discuss the role of leadership in raising standard. The delegation also learnt almost the various functions  performed by the clubs i.e. Health Club, Eco Club and Interact Club. The guest also met with Alumni and interacted with some parents.

 

 

 An English class taken by Ms.Pat Camelleri in II-B. She started the class with the story of  "Three little Pigs and a Wolf". The children listened the story with interest. She praised the students and asked to draw the pictures of pigs and wolf. She was pleased to see the pictures drawn by students. She talked with the students freely.

On Wednesday, 27-10-10, Pushpa Kargeti accompanied the delegates to Dilli Haat and Sarojini Nagar Market. They started from the school at 3 P.M and first went to Dilli Haat. They loved the place and bought several handicraft items. They loved Indian bangles. They also enjoyed Indian sweets there. After visiting Dilli Haat, they went to Sarojini Nagar Market. They were happy to see such a huge and crowded  market. They also bought some decorative item for Diwali.

 

     

An English class was taken by Mr. Mark Chesterton on 27th October in VI-B. He started the class with the story of "Jack and Beanstalk". Then he told the children to interact between each other and discuss. Each child then came up with one point of the story and then the story was drawn on the blackboard. Children liked the session very much.

On 28th October Pranati Bhattacharjee accompanied the delegation to Lotus Temple and Iskcon Temple. They meditated in the Lotus Temple and then went to Iskcon Temple and enjoyed a Vedic Expo. Vedic Expo depicted about 'Bhagavad Geeta', 'Mahabharta', 'History of Ramayan' and 'Renaissance Indian Architecture'.

A Cultural programme was held on 29-10-2010 at Deepalaya School Kalkaji Extension to showcase the different dance forms of India.

The programme started with the lighting of the lamp by Mr.Mark Chesterton the principal of Larkrise School along with Mr.Chackochan Sir the manager of Deepalaya School, Ms.Anita Sawhney  the principal of Deepalaya School, Ms.Shikha Pal , Kirti a student of VA and a parent.  The programme was to show the rich culture of our country through its festivals. Programme began with Onam, followed by Durga Pooja, Christmas, Diwali (depicted in a Rajasthani dance) and Lohri.   Ms. Anita Sawhney welcomed the delegates with a warm heart filling speech and handed each them a card and printing done by the children as a token of  love.  A thanks speech was delivered by Mr.Mark followed by the vote of thanks by Ms.Shikha Pal. The programme ended with the national Anthem.

 

 

   

The visit was memorable with a great learning experience for the students and the teachers.
